ABERCROMBIE & FITCH QUARTERLY
Summer 2003
Cobra Verde
Easy Listening

Not many bands can equate blow jobs with liberty and group sex with patriotism, but that's just what Cobra Verde does on "Riot Industry." Every band likes to think that their sound is so unique that it can't be categorized, but that's actually true for these guys from Cleveland. They're a throwback to a tight '70s blood-sweat-and-tears rock band with groovy yet gritty guitars, roaring drums and commanding vocals. But they don't rest on their rock star laurels by churning out crappy lyrics. They're really amazing wordsmiths. Lines like "Was it the tear gas, was it the perfume/That killed my senses when you crashed into the room?" are absolutely priceless. Well, they're at least worth the price of the CD.
